Community meeting 8 pm Wednesday

SGO will be holding a community meeting on Wednesday, May 27, starting at 8 pm, at the Windrose Meeting House (just north of Pinelakes Blvd off of Kuykendahl).

The meeting is open to all concerned community members---Windrose residents, and just as equally any concerned homeowner in a surrounding subdivision.

We want to bring you up to speed with what we know, and solicit your input on how to proceed. We are working on having yard signs, fliers, and other materials for you to take away and distribute.

If there are any particular questions or concerns you'd like us to address, leave a comment and we'll try to prepare an answer.

Finally--right now, before you move on to your next task--take a moment to email at least one person you know, and tell them about Wednesday's meeting at this site, www.stopgoslingoaks.blogspot.com.

  3. I have been doing some research and came across these two recent government documents which may be of interest. The first one is a ranking system for awarding the requested $1,950,152 from Les Kilday to develop this area. As you can see, the project does not seem to rank that highly at all in terms of a reasonable use of taxpayers money (go all the way to the last page, 2nd from the top):

If I read this correctly, there is $29,812,320 in tax credits up for grabs out of $72,111,309 requested. I would hope that such a low rated project would not receive any of our tax money.

Also, as can be seen from this document, the project was opposed by our state representatives resulting in a minus 14 score (the losest possible):

The state senator did not comment on the project (only the state representive). It would be nice to see a united front from all of our representatives against this project. At least one of them is thinking in the same direction. I say keep writing till our state senator joins the ranks.

In addition, it looks like the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce is squarily against this project:

It says that letters of support or opposition must be received no later than April 1, 2009. I say write them anyways.

  4. In regards to the post above -

This is great information that some followers may not have seen yet… thanks for sharing.

If you call Senator Patrick's Regional Office, they will tell you that this development falls only three spots under the last applicant to be funded. This means that if only 3 or more developments push or back out, Gosling Oaks will move into a funded position. There are apparently several buckets of funds that the TDHCA can leverage for these developments (regional and sub-regional from what I understand).

Application Score - You are correct. The Rep and Senator's offices had until April 1st to support or oppose this project and have it reflect the application score. If our community would have been aware of this and taken a stance, we could of rallied, like we are doing now, to have Senator Patrick submit a letter of opposition. Keep in mind, he cares about his constituents.

Unfortunately, we are too late for his letter of opposition to deduct the application score. However, any letters of opposition he receives from our community can be leveraged in a letter of opposition to be submitted to the TDHCA. This letter won’t lower the application score, but it will carry some weight when the TDHCA Board meets to review which applications they will approve.

This is the very reason each resident household needs to submit a letter of opposition to Senator Patrick ASAP!

As a community member, I am proud to see the efforts people are making. Keep it up… this is stoppable!

  5. When I first found out about this, I contacted TDHCA immediately. They said that the "organizational" opposition due date is passed but the "rest" (non-organizational) can oppose it until June 15. I would have to agree - write anyways. What's it gonna hurt? It won't! :)

  6. I guess we all can become 'Community Organizers' in this effort. What we should be mindful of is that there will be a second wave of fundings when the TARP and Stimulus funds start flowing later this year and right before the 2010 elections in late September and October. It's in the pipe.
    .
A consideration should be given to meeting with the developer and inviting dialogs for the facilities he is proposing. We need to make certain it is fenced, contains all services, has a regular scheduled pickup and repair services in place and supplies it's residents with their needs, so that they don't become a burden on us. The probability of it being funded on the second or third round is pretty high. If the developer does not consent to all of these services and requirements, then he will be detracting points and further extend the distance from getting funding; he will also be preparing our arguments against his own development.
